Today would have been the 125th birthday of the greatest director Germany ever produced. In his honor, his greatest film. You've probably seen it, but M is the very definition of rewatchable.
I first came across it, like CALIGARI and NOSFERATU, by accident on SCETV one summer afternoon when I was 10. (1979) Perhaps it made such an impact because I was the age of his victims. But I've loved it and his films ever since and they had a major influence on my own work. And no one at the time made better-looking, better-designed films.
And Peter Lorre remains gripping as hell. And Nazis hated it. What's not to like?
