In late 2008 I had the good and rare fortune of doing drawings I got paid generously for, if only on a bimonthly basis. This was for AAA's travel magazine--the Washington edition--JOURNEY. I even had the pleasure of seeing my name listed as sole "illustrator" there on the masthead. They went to a photo-only design later in 2009, so that ended, but it was a lot of fun and I had good editors, but demanding. All of these are fourth or fifth drafts.
Fortunately I usually submitted far ahead to allow for that, which I recommend to anyone. If you're submitting right at deadline, I'm sorry. You're fucking yourself. There will be changes.
Anyway, I realized I hadn't posted them online except in my Whole9 portfolio. So here they all are. Click any image to see a bigger version.
Illustrations for David Volk's LAST STOP columns, Nov. 2008-April 2009, roughly.
Profile illustrations, Spring 2009. L-R: Travel and outdoors writers Leslie Forberg, Harriet Baskas, Allen Cox, Eric Lucas, Crai Bower.
Map spot illo, Spring 2009, the only thing I've ever finished in Corel Painter X(it makes my system really slow). With my own font, Vitriol 3.0, which I use on all my dialogue and captions as well.
