Republicans Have Decided On Their New Identity
After the brutal, cold-blooded murder of Dr. George Tiller this weekend, do you think the WOMP would back off a little, realize they'd gone too far, maybe try to calm things down? Did they hell. No, they have in fact embraced the cowardly assassin Scott Roeder as the symbol of where they want to go and what they want to be. And meanwhile, of all people, Sarah damn Palin has emerged as the voice of reason
, but she probably still wants to be president; but when Sarah Palin gives the most reasonable response of any Republican, you know the party has devolved to a terminal state. Palin gave a bland, decent statement that, in normal times, any sane politician would make at the very least. And in which, by making a comparison to a soldier killed in Iraq by an Islamic extremist, either accidentally or purposely makes it plain that Christian terrorism is just as evil and pernicious as the Islamic kind, but maybe she didn't realize that--perhaps it was meant as a diminishment of Tiller's murder, but the resulting meaning is something the WOMP attempts to obscure every chance they get. Like now.
So, eh; why does it stick out? Because the rest of the Right have decided to applaud and celebrate this murder. Because they're pro-life, and Christian, and...apparently speak and write in a language that just happens to sound
like English, but where every word means something different than what you know.
People like Glenn Beck are no longer outliers. They are a harbinger of things to come. What we have here is a group of people that, once they'd gained power, expected to have rigged the game in such a way that they'd never lose. And then they did what people like that always do: got lazy, stupid, fat and incompetent. Or rather, over time, all these things revealed themselves, though to some of us they'd always been apparent. Now they don't have the power and it's their own fault. And deep down, they know it, and it just makes them angrier to think about that. And worse, the president is black. So of course this bunch of illiterate, stupid, slacker bigots want to kill.
So what is to be done before more of this happens?
What we don't ever talk about is that terrorism isn't an issue of them vs. us. It's an issue of terrorists vs. their country's government and those connected to it. And this makes us ignore that what Al-Qaeda is to Afghanistan, or the IRA is to the UK, organizations like the Army of God or Operation Rescue are to us.
And people like Beck, O'Reilly, Limbaugh and Hannity are increasingly trying to mainstream them. Consider why they'd want that, and why they'd keep pushing the party into a minority corner, where it can only get angrier. You'd think they were trying to turn the Republican party into an exclusive club. Or to break it and transform what's left into something else, something that is beyond pretending to care about elections as a means to power, and has lots of guns and resentment on hand. That has been brought to believe their very system is so impure that it must be wiped out. The sort of thing they stirred up in the 90s to keep Clinton busy.
Now what could that be?
