The Get John Out of Seattle Fund: Goodies for Sale Right Now! (UPDATED)
(note: originally posted Thursday, 8/2--I am keeping this on top for now while this is still a thing. There have been new posts; just scroll down at the main page)
Okay, now we're going to take a moment with something very important for me personally.
Yesterday I was back down in the Bay Area of California, which I left 10 years ago, to my stinging regret ever since. I have a really good job that is secured on one condition: I move down there no later than the very beginning of September. That is it. Other than that, it's a done deal. Specifically for a very great organization that is removing an invasive plant species from the Bay. They are wonderful people, who seem to like me a lot, and having met them and been in their office, and met their two incredibly friendly dogs, I know this is the place for me. Not just the company, but the Bay Area itself, the only place I have ever lived I haven't one complaint about.
This is something I not only want, I have to do.
But if I do not move there by then, the job goes away. This is a firm and adamantine point: It is mine but contingent on that deadline. And my funds right now are lower than advisable for such a move. (and it will also drastically reduce what I physically have to move, but that's incidental)
I have not had a good life since I left Berkeley. I have been trying to get back there since at least 8 years ago. This is a chance that will not occur again to solve every problem that has been crushing me since I left. So I am selling a lot of my stuff to make this happen because I am determined not to blow this.
So here are links to what I am selling. From my collection, which is a lot of rare and cool comics, books, music, and more, plus my original artwork(ALL of which I am willing to sell, so if there's something you're interested in, and it's not listed, contact me.)
First, on Ebay. Too many things to post individual links here, and I will be adding much more. So here is a link to the whole bunch of them. A number of these are not auctions but fixed-price. Anyone who wins these items, by the way, who mentions they saw this on my blog, on Twitter, or those of you who know me on Facebook, gets a free signed mini-sketch made right then and there for you. And you get one per item you win(I also consolidate shipping). So, you win two items, you get two sketches, and so forth.
And this includes some fairly choice items. To mention just one example: the original Wein/Wrightson SWAMP THING. A number of issues, including the first two. It also includes a number of LULU pages for a bargain Buy It Now price that is only slightly more than the bid price(as is the case with most of the items), including the first pages on which she appears and the pencil art for the cover of THIS SICKNESS 7. More LULU pages at a link below, where you'll find the nuder ones(Ebay won't let me post those, sadly). Also includes two rare issues of the underground BIJOU FUNNIES(original printings), all of Garth Ennis' WAR STORIES in nearly perfect condition, a huge number of ANIMAL MAN issues(including Morrison plus the entire unreprinted runs by Peter Milligan and Jamie Delano & Steve Pugh) and more. All these comics are prime stuff and more are coming.
And Sketchmaven, where most of my artwork can be bought. This includes not only more LULU pages, but a lot of artwork in the more "adult" realm that Ebay will not allow me to list, including Vladrushka and STORY OF OH! and much more. All of this is scanned so the artwork itself is something I can sell freely.
And finally, there's the stuff I publish. However, there is a delay on royalties, so it's more imperative the other stuff has your attention.
This is extremely imperative and important. It's an opportunity that is more than once in a lifetime, it has the probability of oxygen turning to gold spontaneously. It will not happen again, and if I do not manage to swing this, it will not happen at all. If I move there, I already have the job. So please, buy some stuff, and also please share a link to this post anywhere you can. I appreciate your help, and thank you in advance, loyal readers.
And another thing you will get: you will never hear me complain here about the place I live again.
And now, Robert Wyatt, for reading this far.(doing a Chic cover)
UPDATE: Though the auctions are still up, and please by all means check them out because I do still need to shore up moving costs, I have managed it, the move will happen, all thanks to the help of you folks and very special friends and colleagues(or rather colleagues who are also friends) who have spread this.
