Um, I'm Sorry, Is This 1305?

The religious right strikes again. Isn't it interesting that in most cases, the only medical advances they choose to attack are the ones that most directly affect women?

See, if women no longer fear cervical cancer, goes your Christian reasoning, they'd all become raging sluts.

Well, god knows, women certainly never have sex these days. I can see your point. Like fear of trichinosis would help enforce dietary laws, I suppose.

Can I ask a question? Why exactly does anyone give these lunatics a hearing? Ignorance is not merely another point of view.

Josh Marshall's eagle eye caught this in the Libby indictment, page 5:
On or about June 12, 2003, LIBBY was advised by the Vice President of the United States that Wilson's wife worked at the Central Intelligence Agency in the Counterproliferation Divison. LIBBY understood that the Vice President had learned this information from the CIA.
Only a matter of time for Dick now, then, because we know what he knew and when he knew it.

I think it's telling that at no point does anyone think Bush is involved enough in the government to be responsible for any of this.

Their Loss: Our Gain?

The dollar jumped a bit against the Euro on the news of Libby's indictment. Gosh, if the whole administration were to be tossed out, maybe our economy would finally return.

It Happened

Scooter Libby has been indicted for "perjury, obstruction of justice, and making false statements," and has resigned.

Two down, more coming.

Bush vs. Onion

Apparently somebody thinks that the icons of our government are his private property.

But it will make perfect sense if you let your brain evaporate like so many whiskey fumes and become a Republican.

Judith Miller appears to be on her way out at the Times after all.

Not that anything less than the resignation of Sulzberger himself will bring back the Gray lady's credibility.

Asked if the debate had become "one-sided," with too few defending Ms. Miers, Senator Sessions, the Alabama Republican, struggled for words, then pushed a button for a nearby elevator in the Capitol building and told an aide, "Get me out of here."

No, Looks Like You Already Fucked Yourself, Mr. Cheney

Cheney told Libby, Libby told Miller. And Libby seems to have originally told the grand jury the opposite.

Oh, and incidentally, Tenet told Cheney. So not only did Cheney get his information directly from the CIA, there is now the possibility that Tenet betrayed the CIA. Suddenly that medal makes all the sense in the world.

Either Rove gave up Libby, Libby gave up Rove and Cheney, or Novak is singing a fine old medley for them even now. I can only imagine what kind of indictments we'll see this Wednesday from the implacable Mr. Fitzgerald. Even the editor of the rabid right-wing lapdog Washington Times tonight on Hardball said that all the Bush administration can hope for is bad or worse, not good or bad.

And I can only wonder what will happen to Miller, Keller and Sulzberger. I wouldn't be surprised if you saw, to force their resignations, a mass walkout of everyone at the NYT except, of course, the total tools John Tierney and William Safire.

The parallels are interesting--the first with the Clinton impeachment, which was over perjury, and the second with Jayson Blair, who was simply too lazy to do his job, rather than being a planted propagandist who helped nudge us toward war. If the original incidents were enough for such outrage and such radical action, what of these?

Sometimes the farce comes before the tragedy in history.

But I wonder...what will happen when this administration completely collapses, finally, under the overwhelming weight of its own bullshit?

Perhaps we should invite Al Gore to finally serve his rightful term?
